AI agent

AI agent vs chatbot: what is the difference?

A chatbot answers messages. An AI agent answers and then does the work behind the answer: it checks stock, creates the order and passes the thread to your team when a case needs a person. For a shop selling on Messenger, Zalo and Shopee, that difference decides how many chats still land on your desk.

Three kinds of chat tools

Chat tools for businesses fall into three groups. Each one asks you to set it up differently, and each one handles a hard question differently.

Answer bots

Answer bots, such as Chatbase, learn from documents you upload and reply with text from them. They suit shops whose customers ask the same questions again and again. An answer bot cannot check an order unless you connect a separate system, and when a question falls outside your documents, it has to guess or apologise.

Flow builders

Flow builders, such as ManyChat, send messages along a flowchart you draw: the customer taps a button and gets the next step. You control each reply. You also draw each branch yourself, and a new channel usually means a new flow.

AI agents

An AI agent starts from a job you choose, like sales or customer support. It reads your product knowledge, calls the tools you connect (inventory, orders, CRM) and stops to hand the chat to your team for refunds, angry customers or anything you mark as sensitive. You set up one agent and switch it on for each channel.

Which one fits your shop

  • Pick an answer bot if customers ask a few repeated questions and the bot never needs to touch an order.
  • Pick a flow builder if you run fixed campaigns, like a giveaway or a coupon flow, and want each message scripted.
  • Pick an AI agent if your team spends the day checking stock, confirming orders and replying on several channels at once.

How Ecbot works as an AI agent

You describe the job in plain language, connect your channels with your own accounts, and add knowledge from documents, your website or Google Drive. The agent answers only from that knowledge. It reaches your systems through more than 700 Composio integrations or your own HTTP and MCP endpoints. One agent runs on Messenger, Zalo, WhatsApp, Telegram and website chat; Shopee, TikTok Shop and Instagram are coming soon.

Frequently asked questions

Is an AI agent the same as a chatbot?

No. A chatbot replies from text you upload or from a flow you draw. An AI agent also takes actions, such as checking stock or creating an order, and hands the conversation to a person when your rules say so.

Do I need technical skills to set up an AI agent?

No. With Ecbot you describe the job in plain language, connect your channels and knowledge, then set the rules. You do not write prompts or draw flows.

What happens when the agent cannot answer?

You decide when it must stop, for example on refund requests or with an angry customer. The agent then hands the thread to your team with the full conversation and tells the customer a person will reply.
